RC522 RFID HAT is an expansion board of a contact-less reader/writer card. It is specifically designed for the Raspberry PI 4B. The chip is the RC522. This product supports three types of transmission communication, I2C, SPI and UART. All I2C address lines are led out and can be configured freely by the users. On-board programmable passive buzzer and LEDs are available, so it allows users to do IC card experiments through sound and light prompts. Meanwhile this makes the users observe the experimental phenomenon more clearly, and it is convenient not only for the beginners to do the experiment of lighting up the LED, but also for the beginners to learn the Raspberry Pi.
RC522 is a highly integrated reader/writer for contact-less communication at 13.56MHz. It is a low-voltage, low-cost, small-sized and non-contacting read-write card chip, launched by NXP for "three-meter" applications, which is a good choice for the development of smart meters and portable handheld devices.
Features
- Highly integrated modulation and demodulation circuitry;
- Buffered output drivers to connect an antenna with minimum number of external components;
- Supports ISO/IEC 14443 Type A, MIFARE and Communication protocols;
- Typical operating distance in Reader/Writer mode for communication to a ISO 14443A/MIFARE up to 50mm depending on the antenna size and tuning;
- Supports ISO 14443 higher transfer speed communication up to 212kbit/s and 424kbit/s;
- Supports MIFARE Classic encryption;
- Supported host interfaces:
- SPI interface up to 10Mbit/s
- I2C interface up to 400kbit/s in fast mode, up to in high-speed mode 3400kbit/s
- Serial UART in different transfer speeds up to 1228.8kbit/s, framing according to the RS232 interface with voltage levels according pad voltage supply;
- Comfortable 64 byte send and receive FIFO-buffer;
- Flexible interrupt modes;
- Programmable timer;
- Three modes of power saving: hardware power down, software power down and transmitter power down. The first two modes are similar to MFRC500 and SLRC400, with a unique "transmitter power-down" that turns off the internal antenna driver, i.e. turns off the RF field;
- An internal temperature sensor to prevent automatically stopping RF emission when the chip temperature is too high;
- Adoption of independent multiple sets of power supply to avoid mutual interference among modules and improve the stability of the work;
- With functions of CRC and parity. The CRC coprocessor's 16-bit long CRC computation polynomial is fixed to: x16+x12+x5+1, conforming to ISO/1EC14443 and CCTITT protocols;
- Internal oscillator to connect 27.12MHz quartz crystal;
- 2.5~3.3V power supply;
- Operating temperature range;-30~+85℃;
- Super small size:5mm×5mm×0.85mm;

Connector Overview
The Raspberry Pi GPIO pin connector is convenient for direct connection to the Raspberry Pi, and Dupont cables can also be used to connect to single chip micro-computers, such as STM32 and 80C51.
Hardware Connection
RC522 RFID HAT supports three communication modes of I2C, SPI and UART at the same time. Through SW1 and SW2 these two DIP switches you can achieve the switching of the communication interface, but please note that the UART / I2C / SPI interface can not be connected to the Raspberry Pi at the same time, otherwise it can not communicate normally.
